Georgian Revival Garnet & Diamond Ring

$2,300.00

A vintage Georgian revival ring of European origins. Crafted in 18k yellow gold and silver, featuring a deep red foiled garnet set in a gold cut-down collet cup, accented by bright single-cut diamonds set in dainty sterling tulips on the shoulders.

Late 18th century details are faithfully copied from the sunray design engraved on the back of the garnet's seat to the ornate Rococo-style band.

Backing gemstones with foils was common practice in the Georgian period of the 18th and early 19th century as a way to enhance the reflective qualities and color of a jewel. It gives a garnet like this a lovely deep glow and subtle flickering scarlet-red reflections as light enters the depths of the stone.

Details: Approximately 1/2" north to south across the face with a rise of 5.6 mm above the finger when worn. Marked 18ct (18k) inside the band.

Size: Size 6 scant. Not resizable due to the articulation of the band which extends all the way around the hoop.

Condition: In excellent condition with some light wear. There is a natural inclusion in the stone that appears as a spot of glitter when the ring is viewed at certain angles.

Care: rings with foil backed stones should never be immersed in water: remove before showering, dish washing, water skiing, etc. Moisture could get behind the stone and cause the metal foil to oxidize and darken. An accidental splash shouldn't be a problem but you don't want to submerge the ring for any period of time.
