An elegant early Victorian black Vauxhall glass butterfly brooch, with smooth gleaming wings cut along the edges in a scalloped pattern.
The Vauxhall Glassworks in London produced this jewelry from the 18th through the mid 19th centuries, not just in black but jewel colors like red, blue, green and mirrored silver, most of it sold as souvenirs for visitors to the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
Details: Measuring approximately 1 3/4" high by 1 3/4" wide.
Condition: In excellent condition with minimal wear to the front and light oxidization to the metal plates on the back. The hinge and C-clasp are in strong working order.
