Victorian Enamel Locket Necklace
I love the unusual shape of this elegant antique locket. A plump navette or marquise circa 1885 crafted in 12k gold with a stippled texture on the front cover accented by black tracery enamel known as "basse-taille."
A sentimental Victorian remembrance piece, but the shape has such a modern vibe, it's perfect as a daily necklace statement.
Originally meant to hold a daguerreotype, the compartment is deep enough to hold a small memento like a lock of hair or bit of fabric and is protected by the original glass paned lid.
Details: The locket itself measures approximately 1 1/8" north to south, not including the large bail, and is a hair over 1/2" east to west. Not marked for metal content but XRF tests to solid 12k gold. Hung from an antique 25" 10k cable chain that matches the color of the locket. The chain is marked for 10k on the clasp. Total necklace weight is approximately 8.1 grams.
Condition: In excellent antique condition with a light patina but no disfiguring dents or scratches. The glass has a couple of light clamshell chips on the inside along the edge.
