Victorian Enameled Locket dated 1869

$1,450.00

A mid-19th century Victorian locket crafted in deep yellow 18k gold with exquisitely delicate black tracery enamel, dated in an inscription on the inside to 1869. Designed to emulate a miniature hunter-case pocket watch, it opens by means of a tiny push button located at the top of the crown.

A sentimental Victorian remembrance piece; I love the alternating glossy and matte textures created by the enamel against both the smooth and embossed surfaces of the front and back panels.

Details: The locket measures approximately 13/16" in diameter, not including the crown and attachment loop. Not marked for metal content but XRF tests to solid 18k gold. The interior compartment retains its original glass paned lid and antique white silk liner. Engraved inside the cover "E.L.B. Nov. 28th 1869".

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a light patina but no disfiguring dents or enamel wear. There is a scratch on the inside of the lid near the engraving, and a couple of tiny divots along the inside edge, neither are noticeable when the locket is closed.
