Victorian Pearl & Diamond Daisy & Jet Crescent Brooch
An antique Victorian brooch that mixes the drama of a glossy-black carved jet crescent moon with the sweetness of a pearl-studded daisy. The chunky cushion-shaped old mine-cut diamond in the center of the flower adds a seriously sparkly finishing touch.
A perfectly elegant lapel statement but also an interesting choice for a bohemian baby shower. The daisy is sacred to Freya, the Norse goddess of love, fertility and motherhood, while the crescent moon is associated with the Roman goddess Diana, protectress of (among other things) childbirth and fertility.
Details: Measuring approximately 1 7/8" crescent end to end and 1 1/4" wide at the depth of the crescent curve. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 14k. The brooch weighs 9.2 grams.
Condition: In excellent condition with a light patina to the metal and a few very subtle nibbles along the edge of the jet. The tube hinge is firm and the clasp intact.
