Victorian Carved Coral Fly and Gargoyle Charm

$750.00

One of the most interesting antique carved coral charms I've come across, circa 1870 with a fly on one side and a gargoyle on the other. Flies had symbolic meaning in the 19th century, sometimes used as representations of human mortality, and by extension spiritual humility, while gargoyles were considered protection from malignant forces.

Details: Measuring approximately 5/8" long, not including the bail, and 3/8" wide. The pendant cap is gilt silver, we added the 14k jump ring. Hung from a 16" 14k cable chain.

Condition: In excellent antique condition, the coral has a couple of natural inclusions.
