Victorian Bloodstone Cube Charm with Rose Cut Diamonds

$975.00

An antique watch fob charm circa 1880, featuring a precisely carved cube of bloodstone decorated on all sides with glittering rose-cut diamonds set in silver. The stone is a deep velvety-green generously dappled in red, a beautiful example of this type of jasper.

Details: Measuring approximately 3/4" north to south not including the bail. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 14k. Total weight approximately 4.6 grams.

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a light patina speaking to age and history and very minimal wear to the bloodstone.

History: Also known as Heliotrope, Bloodstone is traditionally considered a hero's stone, a talisman for strength, bravery and determination in the face of danger: either danger from within or from outside forces. As a healing stone it's thought beneficial for blood, heart and circulatory health, and has been used as a charm to reinforce the bonds of love and affection in romantic relationships.

Christian legend ties its name to the crucifixion and it was often used in Medieval religious carvings pertaining to matyrdom, which led to its also being known as "The matyr stone".
