Victorian Athena Cameo Ring
A grand statement ring circa 1900, crafted in sterling silver featuring a finely carved shell cameo portrait of the Greek Goddess Athena, aka Minerva in Roman mythology: the patroness of a list of worthy intellectual skills including reason, war strategy, wisdom, mathematics, law and justice, arts, crafts, as well as inspiration and heroic courage.
The deeply chased dragons on the shoulders are a possible reference to the dragon that the goddess Athena defeated when the Olympian gods fought the Titans.
Details: Measuring approximately 13/16" north to south and 5/8" east to west across the face of the ring. Weighs approximately 10.8 grams. XRF tests to sterling silver.
Size: Hits size 10 on the mandrel but fits closer to a 10 1/2 due to the slight D shpaed hoop. We don't recommend resizing.
Condition: In excellent condition with a rich antique patina and minimal wear to the stone, but no obvious chips or scratches.
