Victorian Saphiret Cluster Pendant
A Victorian pendant designed as a flower cluster of large rose-cut Saphiret, an art glass developed in the mid-19th century in the city of Gablonz, in what is now the Czech Republic. The manufacturing technique fused karat gold with blue glass to achieve shimmering and ethereal color effects, the depths of which depend on the amount of gold in the formula.
Details: Measuring approximately 1 1/4" in diameter. The stones are prong-set on a brass form. We added the gold-filled bail and jump-ring; this came to us without any attachment findings but we believe it was originally a hat pin top.
Condition: In excellent antique condition the saphiret has a few subtle nibbles and wear, not easily noticed as the mirror refraction is incredibly bright. The back has light oxidization and a few slight marks.
