Georgian Chrysoberyl Cluster Ring

$2,900.00

Circa 1800, an antique Georgian ring designed as a halo cluster of pale green chrysoberyl, the stones are foiled and set in sterling silver cut-down collets. The hoop is yellow gold, with the shoulders forked in three sections, aka trifurcated, and heavily hand-chased in a rich floral motif.

Details: Measuring approximately 9/16" north to south at the center front, with a 5 mm rise above the finger when worn. We cannot estimate the stone weight due to the type of setting, but they are natural mine-cut chrysoberyl, eye clean with a bright sparkle and even saturation. Not marked for gold content but professionally XRF tests to 10k and sterling silver.

Size: The hoop is slightly oval but should fit like a 7 1/2. Not resizable.

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a rich patina and subtle abrasion to the chrysoberyl, visible with a jeweler's loupe. There is some soft solder visible on the back of the face, which could be an antique repair or from its original construction. The ring is sturdy and the stones stable, ready for another 200 years of service with approriate care.

Important care note: rings with foil backed stones should never be immersed in water: remove before showering, dish washing, water skiing, etc. Moisture could get behind the stone and cause the metal foil to oxidize and darken. An accidental splash shouldn't be a problem but you don't want to submerge the ring for any period of time.

Please keep this in mind if considering this as an engagement ring.
