Art Nouveau Snake Ring with Baroque Pearl
Circa 1900, this antique ring is crafted in 14k yellow gold featuring a version of the Ouroboros motif: a snake curled as a symbol of eternity, faithfulness and the self-renewal of passionate love.
The serpent is coiled protectively around a large and unusually shaped baroque pearl. Specimen baroque pearls were very popular during the Art Nouveau period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as they were seen to represent the unique beauty of Mother Nature's individual creations. Pearls also traditionally repesent faithfulness, integrity, purity and sincere devotion: a lovely undernote to the message of the Ouroboros.
