Antique Rose Cut Garnet 4-Leaf Clover Brooch

$0.00

This product is unavailable

A sweet Victorian four-leaf clover brooch pavé set with juicy-red rose-cut pyrope garnets. The glitter of the stones as light hits the facets is so pretty: a good luck talisman in a lovely package. Traditionally a four-leaf clover is thought to bring good fortune with each leaf representing a different theme: faith, love, hope and luck

I love these Victorian "Bohemian" garnet pieces because of that unmistakeable deep red color, typical of the pyrope garnets mined in the Bohemian mountains, in what is now the Czech Republic. The stones have been used in jewelry since discovery in about the 5th century C.E, but the popularity of this type of cut and setting in the late 19th century was unsurpassed.

Details: Measuring approximately 1 1/4" long by a hair over 3/4" at the widest. The hinge and C clasp are in strong working order. The brooch is made in tombac, an alloy used in Eastern Europe specifically for the type of jewelry, with a rose gold wash.

Condition: In excellent condition with very minimal wear to the stones and some moderate oxidization of the metal.
