Antique Old European Cut Diamond Ring

$5,400.00

A fiery old European-cut diamond set in a yellow gold bezel solitaire mounting circa 1910, the solid chunky design perfect to protect and showcase the warm prismatic sparkle of the stone. Hand-engraved wild roses surround the diamond, and extend down the shoulders adding romantic symbolism and a touch of texture.

Not only April's birthstone and a classic engagement favorite, diamonds are also a traditional reference to fidelity, constancy, power and strength, among other things. During the Middle Ages, it was believed that a diamond would grow darker in the face of guilt and shone most brightly for the innocent and pure of heart.

DetailsMeasuring approximately 3.8" (9.67 mm) north to south with the shoulders tapering gently through to 3.35 mm at the center back. The natural diamond is approximately 1.10 ct, VS-2 clarity and M/N color. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 10k, with an unknown hallmark inside the band. Weighs approximately 5.5 grams.

The ring will come with a full appraisal by a third party G.I.A. and AGA certified gemologist.

History: Old European-cut diamonds are the immediate predecessor to the modern brilliant-cut, developed around the turn of the 20th century, and boast higher crowns, chunky facets, deeper pavilions and open culets. Each stone will have its own unique and individual personality: a warm friendly energy that sets them apart from the uniformly perfect diamonds of today.
