Fede Gimmel Ring with Lovers' Motto

$3,200.00

Our own version of the centuries-old Fede Gimmel motif; we've crafted the smooth outer bands in 14k yellow gold and the inner with its softly serrated edge in 14k rose for a subtle distinction. Engraved around the center ring is a centuries old posy motto: "Endless Be My Love For Thee." In classic form, one side is the masculine hand with its sleek cuff accented by a brilliant-cut single point diamond. The other hand has a feminine lacey cuff set with three diamonds.

With the bands closed the hands display as clasped, a symbol of trust and devotion. With the bands open a heart is revealed; it's imagery that needs no explanation, a story as old as time.

We've always loved the fede symbol, and the idea of sentiment so honest and deeply felt that it need not be shouted because it's an integral part of the greater whole. It's a Medieval betrothal custom, an Elizabethan lovers ring, and a timeless symbol of regard and deeply held feeling for another. That's the message behind our own version of the evocative gimmel design.

We are happy to create a version with two masculine or two feminine cuffs to celebrate your unique love story. Please contact us if you are interested in customizations.

Details: Made to order in sizes 5-10, turnaround time is 4-6 weeks. The face of the ring, the hands as clasped, measures 6.77 mm north to south and approximately 11.25 mm east to west and rises approximately 6 mm above the finger. The three bands measure approximately 4.5 mm in total width. and are 2.54 mm thick.

History: The history of the gimmel ring goes back to at least the 12th century. The fede gimmel is the result of its slow evolution from a two-band form to three, incorporating the fede symbol of hands clasped over a hidden single or double heart. Often they were engraved with a posy motto on the hidden inner band, only to be revealed when the wearer removed the ring and the trio of bands opened, fan-like, to display the inscription.
