Victorian Pyrite & Pearl Ring

$600.00

A Victorian ring circa 1880, crafted in 14k rose gold featuring an oval pyrite face accented by three creamy pearls north and south. The elegant Aesthetic-style details on the shoulders are an interesting juxtaposition to the rough-hewn nature of the stone, and the warm pink gold a lovely contrast to its steely grey glitter.

Details: Measuring approximately 3/4" north to south by 7/16" east to west across the face. Not marked for gold content but professionally tests to 14k.

Size: Currently size 5 scant and resizable about two full sizes without issue. Please convo me before purchase if you are interested in our sizing service.

Condition: In excellent condition, with a gentle all-over antique patina attesting to it's age and history.

History: For centuries across many cultures pyrite has been held as a talisman for mental acuity, vitality, physical health, healing, luck and wealth. Its traditional amuletic benefits include good fortune both romantically and fiscally as well as protection against physical illness and injury; Native American legend holds that a polished piece of it provided a mirror to the soul, and the ancient Chinese believed it to be protection from crocodile attacks.

Known as "Fool's Gold" for it's ability to fool eager prospectors as deposits of pyrite sometimes coincide with deposits of gold. In the 16th and 17th century iron pyrite was used as a form of ignition in early firearms because it will create a spark when struck against steel. This characteristic has been known since ancient times and may be why the stone is associated with astrological fire signs, most notably Leo.
