Georgian Woven Hair with Pearls Ring

$2,200.00

An elegant antique Georgian Regency era mourning ring, circa 1810-20 crafted in 14k rose gold with a lustrous split pearl halo, the pearls symbolic of tears, around the center compartment which holds a memento of woven chestnut-brown hair under crystal.

Pieces such as this are sometimes referred to as "deed box" jewelry, meaning they were bequeathed as mementos after the passing of a dear friend or relative and then put away for safe keeping, not meant to be worn but preserved. Some mourning jewels have survived in pristine condition this way, and likely this is one such ring.

Details: Measuring approximately 9/16" north to south at the center front, tapering through the shoulders to 2.20 mm at the center back. Not marked for gold content but acid tests to 14k.

Size: The oval shape of the shank makes it difficult to size accurately on a modern mandrel but it fits comfortably like a 6-6 1/2. Because of the pearls set along the shoulders sizing is not recommended.

Condition: The pearls appear to be all original and the ring is in remarkably fine condition.
