Georgian Mourning Band, dated 1798
The larger ring size makes this Georgian mourning band somewhat rare, crafted in 22k with white enamel, which usually signifies a child or unmarried person, made to commemorate Charles Farquhar Esq., who passed on the 19th of April, aged 29, in 1798.
We've done some preliminary research down the rabbit hole, and determined that Farquhar is a prominent Scottish family name. I'm certain the new caretaker of this historic piece will enjoy burrowing further into the history.
Details: Measuring approximately 7.25 mm wide. Hallmarked on the inside with the British lion passant mark for 22k, with an unidentified maker's mark and the profile of King George III. There appears to be a letter to indicate date of manufacture but without the origin city it's difficult to verify.
Size: 10 scant, although due to the wdith and that the ring is ever so slightly out of round, fits more like a 9 1/2.
Condition: In excellent antique condition with age appropriate wear.
