Diamond & Sapphire Toi et Moi Ring
RESERVED
Circa 1900 a beautifully made antique ring crafted in 18k yellow gold in a Toi et Moi motif featuring a prismatic old mine-cut diamond opposite a sparkling natural cornflower blue sapphire. Six rose-cut diamonds set in sterling accent the stones, adding their delicate sparkle to the scrolled lines of the design.
It's a gorgeous statement, elegant and elongating on the finger, a style that's able to play well with rings from a variety of eras. I love the double swirl effect, it's bold and yet romantic at the same time, so unique.

History: The crossover or bypass motif, also known as a "Toi et Moi" or "You and Me", was a style quite popular in the late Victorian to early Edwardian period symbolizing the twining of two souls or lovers. Historically however, it dates back to at least the late 18th century when Napolean gave Josephine a sapphire and diamond Toi et Moi engagement ring.
The Belle Époque is considered to have begun around 1880, ending with the start of WWI in 1914. Characterised by economic prosperity, a thriving artistic and cultural climate and technical innovations, and named in retrospect later in the 20th century, by comparison with the global conflicts before and after it, the period was considered a "Golden Age" for European society.
