An antique 14k safety pin brooch hallmarked for Tiffany & Co. circa 1900, featuring an essex crystal yacht flag in red and black on a mother of pearl backround.
True essex crystals such as this were crafted by carving the image on the underside of a rock crystal dome then painting it in for the detail and color. Usually the crystal is then set on mother of pearl which gives the image a lovely shimmery backround that adds a sort of glowing effect to the crystal.
DETAILS: Measures approximately 1 3/4" long with the essex crystal measuring 7/16" in diameter. Marked on the back "Tiffany & Co." with "Pat. applied for" on the stem near the hinge.
CONDITION: In excellent condition with a light patina and very minimal wear to the top of the crystal.
