Victorian Jeweled Bee Pendant

$2,900.00

Circa 1890 this jeweled insect pendant reminds me of a bee or wasp, but perhaps it's a fantasy bug created by an imaginative 19th century jeweler. Beautifully crafted in 14k with its wings set in sparkling bright rose-cut diamonds, an emerald at the thorax and red ruby eyes. The abdomen is represented by a large shimmering-white baroque pearl and the wings are enameled a deep velvety green.

Details: Measuring approximately 1 1/8" north to south not including the bail, and 1 1/8" east to west. We believe the pearl may be natural, and we sent the pendant to GIA for confirmation, but as the pearl cannot be removed from its setting they were unable to test it. Estimated .44-.50 ctw rose-cut diamonds. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 14k

Condition: In excellent antique condition, with a gentle patina. This was likely originally a small pin or brooch as there are slight marks on the backs of the wings where pin findings may have been attached.
