Victorian Cut Steel & Tigers Eye Beetle Brooch
A statement sized mid-19th century Victorian beetle brooch completely set in gleaming hand-cut steel rivets with a round tiger's eye cabochon thorax. I love the different shapes of the pieces, it's that wonderful bit of attention to detail that makes antique pieces so special.
Details: Measuring approximately 2 1/2" long and 1 3/4" at the widest spread of the feet. The steel pieces are all hand-cut, each one riveted to the backing: an indication of earlier pieces as opposed to later work which consisted of molded rivets attached to a backing as a plate. It's possible this was originally a Victorian belt buckle converted to brooch at a later date.
Condition: In excellent antique condition. Some of the rivets have light oxidization, as does the back. The hinge and C-clasp are in strong secure working order.
