Georgian Window Locket with Pearls
Circa 1820, an antique oval Georgian locket set with a halo of natural pearls around a beveled glass window front, with a hinged window lid at the back. It's possible there was originally a braid of hair around the edge, and likely also inside, but the sides are now smooth gleaming rose-tinted gold and the inside empty- ready to hold whatever tiny keepsake you'd like to put inside.
Details: The locket itself measures approximately 3/4" north to south by 7/8" wide and about 1/4" deep, with the pearl studded bail 1/4" high. The body of the locket XRF tests to 14k gold, the pearls appear to be all original, in which case they are natural, but we can't be sure there haven't been any replacements over the last 200 years. Weigh approximately 8.8 grams.
Condition: In excellent antique condition with a light patina and some slight wear to the glass and nacre of the pearls, but no obvious scratches or rubbing. This may have originally been a brooch as well, as there is a small spot of soft solder on the back edge where pin findings might have been attached.
