Antique Operculm Shell Ring

$680.00

An antique talisman ring, circa 1910, crafted in 10k yellow gold and set with an operculum, the protective cover that certain sea and land snails produce to close themselves inside their shells to stay safe from predators. I love its natural swirls of earthy color against the creamy white backround.

Traditionally operculum are considered a natural formation of the amuletic cat's or evil eye, displayed or carried to ward off curses, ill-wishes, bad mojo and other forms of incidental bad luck.

Details: Measuring a hair shy of 3/4" north to south and 5/8" east to west across the face, with a height of about 1/4" above the finger when worn and a 2.17 mm width at the back of the band. Marked for 10k inside the band, weighs approximately 4.8 grams.

Size: Currently size 7 1/4 and resizable about two full sizes. Please contact us before purchase if you are interested in the details of our sizing service.

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a gentle patina and natural craquelure across the face of the operculum.
