An ancient Roman bronze hand amulet, circa 100-300 CE, newly fitted with a 22k bail and bracelet. Considered symbolic of friendship and union as well as apotropaic protection against the evil eye and other malevolent forces, magical hands were popular with all levels of Ancient Roman society. This little bronze talisman was likely originally prized by a working class citizen, bronze was an affordable material for jewelry and most could own a piece, but as it's been buried for some time since then it's acquired a gorgeous patina that coats the metal, suitable for its history and age.
Details: Measuring approximately 1" north to south including the bail. The bail and brtacelet are 22k. Hung from a 14k 16" cable chain.
