Victorian Coral & Diamond Festoon Necklace

$2,450.00

A gorgous Victorian festoon necklace circa 1875 in 20k yellow gold featuring natural coral orbs arranged along the chain as stations and drops, culminating in a pendant accented by the delicate twinkle of rose cut diamonds.

Possibly Italian in origin and meticulously crafted, it's a beautiful example of "Grand Tour" jewelry, those pieces meant to be purchased by wealthy 19th century European travelers as souvenirs of their trip.

Details: With a necklace length of approximately 18" and a 2" drop at the center front, and the original tube clasp. It appears the chain may have been extended as there is a difference in chain design towards the clasp. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 20k, with short sections of 14k reinforcing the back of the pendant.

Condition: In excellent condition with minimal signs of wear and a few natural inclusions in the coral. The clasp is in firm working order.

History: Coral was extremely popular during the 19th century and figured in all types of personal adornment. It's been considered good luck for centuries but has also been attributed metaphysically with the power to aid healing specifically with blood and circulatory health issues.
