Freshwater Pearls with Georgian Clasp
We made this one of a kind statement necklace, hand-knotting pink and orchid tinted freshwater pearls on rose-colored silk, finishing the strand with a hook and eye clasp constructed of yellow gold Georgian and early Victorian components.
I love reviving antique forms, giving them new purpose with updated style. The subtle iridescence of the pearls, with their uniquely beautiful and naturally irregular shapes, is an interesting juxtaposition to the ornate foliate and fauna motif of the closure.
Details: Measuring a total of 28" long, with the clasp approximately 3 1/4" of that length. The pearls measure in a 10-11 mm range. The clasp components XRF test 10k and 14k, the dolphin head and hook likely have a lead form inside, which was often used to give these elements strength for their original purpose as watch chain ends.
Condition: The antique clasp components are in excellent condition, with a rich patina and some slight darkening over areas of the construction seams.
