Vintage Connemara Shamrock Charm Necklace
A vintage shamrock pendent crafted in 9k yellow gold set with expertly cut pieces of connemara marble. The motif is stylized to exaggerate the heart shape of a clover's leaves, adding to its visual appeal, but also perhaps a reference to Connemara marble's traditional use as a bridal or friendship gift between families.
Details: Measuring approximately 15/16" north to south and east to west. Marked on the back for manufacture in Dublin, Ireland in the 1960s, and 375 for 9k. Hung from a 16" gold-filled cable chain.
Condition: In excellent vintage condition with a light patina and areas of lighter gold on the back, perhaps evidence of a previous pin fitting.
History: Connemara marble is only found in a remote area of western Ireland and because of it's beautifully varied shades of green has become known as a symbol of Ireland as well as Ireland's jewel. According to ancient Irish tradition it brings serenity and good luck to anyone who keeps it close at hand.
