Antique Charm Holder Clasp
Circa 1850 this antique hand-shaped charm clasp was once attached to the end of a long "muff guard" chain, but we came across it in its present independent state. Designed to resemble a gauntlett-gloved hand holding a screw-top hinged-loop clasp, it now serves as an interesting way to display a favorite pendant or attach separate chains to create your own distinctive necklace layers.
Details: Measuring approximately 1 5/8" long, with the hook 3.75 mm at the thickest, so should accommodate bails and jump rings with at least a 4 mm inside diameter. The hook swings back and forth on the bracket. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 14k, although with these the hook itself is usually gold over a base-metal core with the hand and bracket in solid karat gold. Weighs 6 grams.
Condition: In excellent condition with a light antique patina, the spring action of the hook lever and the swivel are in strong working order.
