Vintage Essex Crystal Dog Charm Necklace

Circa 1940 this essex crystal dog pendant is set in an 18k bezel cup, hung from a 14k cable chain. The details are so realistic, note the tiny blades of grass and itsy bitsy gleam on the little black nose.

I love this doggo's proud stance, he's just waiting to start the day's adventures.

Details: Measuring approximately 3/4" from top of the bail to bottom of the pendant and 5/8" wide. Possibly originally a brooch converted at some point in its long history. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 18k, the 17" chain is marked for 14k on the clasp. Approximately 6.6 grams total necklace weight.

Condition: In excellent condition with very minimal wear to the top of the crystal and some light marks on the back of the pendant.

History: True essex crystals such as this are crafted by carving the image on the underside of a rock crystal dome then painting it in for the detail and color. Usually set on mother of pearl which gives them a lovely shimmery backround that adds a sort of glowing effect to the crystal.
