Victorian Carved Jet Line Bracelet

$1,200.00

A Victorian line bracelet made of smooth carved-jet squares with cleanly angled  pyramidal-cut tops and gently curved undersides, connected with 14k gold links. Although it was made in the last quarter if the 19th century it has a timeless elegance and modern-minimalist vibe that could comfortably complement a bold gold wrist stack or a collection of sleek bangles.

Details: Measuring approximately 7 3/8" long and 3/8" wide. Not marked for metal content but the findings XRF test to 14k.

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a couple of light nibbles and one small divot on a facet of the square that holds the dock of the clasp. Please see photo. The clasp is secure and the safety chain offers additional security.

History: Jet is essentially a type of fossilized wood, like coal, and has been used in jewelry since the Neolithic period; it became especially popular in the 19th century for mourning jewelry due to it's inky color, light weight and the ease with which it can be carved.
