Edwardian Opal & Pearl Pendant
Circa 1910, a pendant featuring an Australian opal of jubilant color-play surrounded by creamy white pearls that extend from the sides like little rays. Crafted in 14k yellow gold, it was likely originally a stick pin transformed at some point to its present form.
Details: Measuring approximately 3/4" north to south 5/8" east to west. Hung from a fine 19" contemporary 14k cable chain.
Condition: In excellent condition, with some light wear and natural inclusions to the top of the opal visible with magnification, and a spot of matrix showing on the back of the opal, not visible when worn.
History: October's birthstone, the opal is considered to be lucky but the luck is reserved for the faithful of heart. Traditionally, the unfaithful might not find this gemstone's influence as beneficial. To give a gift of opal says you are pledging your loyalty either romantically or platonically, and combining the opal with pearls assures the sincerity of the promise.
