Victorian Diamond & Pearl Sunburst

This elegant pendant was originally an antique lace pin circa 1910 in the shape of a sun or star-burst, crafted in 14k yellow gold. It’s an intricately designed piece set with seed pearls along the rays that emanate from a sparkling old mine-cut diamond: bright and eye-clean approximately .05 ct.

A wonderful choice for the bohemian bride, but perfect for everyday wear as well. It would be fabulous layered with other necklaces or chains.

Details: Measuring approximately 1” north to south including the attached bail, and 7/8” east to west. Hung on a fine antique 18 1/2" 14k yellow gold cable chain.

Condition: In excellent condition with a light patina and subtle marks on the back where the pin findings were removed. Hallmarked on the back for 14k, the clasp of the chain is marked for 14k.

History: In the late 19th and earliest 20th century when frills and furbelows (what a great word! Not to digress but essentially it means a ruffle or flounce) were the height of fashion, the lace pin enjoyed great popularity. A lace pin was a small brooch designed to accent or artfully anchor such frills, while discreetly drawing attention to the wearer's placement of the pin, which was more likely than not the bosom.

At the time men were not supposed to touch or even speak of a woman's physical charms below the neck but a discreet glance was encouraged if not expected. Alas, along with discretion, the lace pin has become obsolete in the modern world so we've repurposed it into a pendant for the modern neck.
