Victorian Pavé Turquoise Snake Brooch
Two of my favorite things in one fabulous brooch: antique Victorian pavé turquoise and serpent motif jewelry. Originally this coiled snake was a belt buckle circa 1860, based on the age of the pin findings it was converted in the 1920s to a brooch, a perfect use of its graceful but dramatic form.
I love the classic "duck-faced" Victorian serpent, a friendly little face represented here with garnet glass eyes and a cheeky smile.
Details: Possibly made in Austria, the brooch measures approximately 2 1/2" by 1 1/2", marked for 900 silver on the back. The hinge and safety clasp are in strong working order.
Condition: In excellent condition with a rich patina and some visible natural matrix on the turquoise, but no significant scratches or cracks. Visible marks of the previous belt findings on the back, not noticeable when worn.
