Victorian Loving Hearts Brooch
A sweet antique bar brooch crafted in 9k rose gold designed as two hearts snuggled together both set with sapphire paste and crowned with a reef knot.
A thoughtful choice as a bridal gift given the love token symbolism and the "something blue" color of the stones.
Details: Measuring approximately 1 3/4" long and a hair over 1/2 at the widest. Fully hallmarked for 9k, Birmingham England manufacture, letter dated for 1906.
Condition: In excellent condition with nominal wear, and slight antique patina. The tube hinge and c-clasp are in firm working order.
History: Symbolic of the joining of two hearts, or two lives in love, the double heart motif has been popular since the Middle Ages. It was often shown crowned to add the emphasis of loyalty, but when shown with a love or reef knot above the pair the passionate edge of romantic meaning is emphasized.
