Victorian Jet Ball Drop Earrings

$350.00

I love the sleek modernist aesthetic of these Victorian earrings circa 1880, featuring perfectly carved jet orbs with a matte finish. The wires are 10k gold and the balls are set closely to them so they appear to drop just below the lobe when worn.

Jet is essentially a type of fossilized wood, like coal, and has been used in jewelry since the Neolithic period; it became especially popular in the 19th century for mourning jewelry due to it's inky color, light weight and the ease with which it can be carved.

Details: The orbs measure approximately 12.25 mm each and about 3/4" from the top of the ear wire curve to the bottom of the drop. The wires have been XRF tested to 10k gold and each earring weighs approximately 2.8 grams.

Condition: In excellent antique condition, there are no signs of damage and the wires are sturdy.
