Antique Miniature Working Heart Padlock in 18k
I'm always thrilled to come across one of these antique miniature working padlocks, this one in 18k yellow gold circa 1890 is a true Victorian prize. It actually locks and unlocks to work as a clasp and still has it's original key, pretty amazing when you consider it's been on the planet for around 130 years. Personally I lose my keys at least once a week.
The sweetest pattern of tiny forget me nots is embossed on the front, while the back is smooth. To lock: push the handle into the body of the padlock until it clicks, the padlock stays firmly shut when locked. To unlock: gently insert the key then turn clockwise until the handle pops open.
Perfect as the clasp or connector for a chain, and plays beautifully as a romantic pendant statement.
Details: Measuring approximately 3/4" high and 1/2" wide. Not marked for metal content but XRF tests for solid 18k. Total weight for key and padlock is 2.5 grams.
Condition: In excellent condition with a light patina but no obvious dents or scratches. Slight wear to inside curve of the handle.
