Victorian Taille d'Epargné Enamel Belt Bangle in 14k

$3,600.00

A lovely Victorian bangle circa 1880, designed to resemble a buckled belt, symbolic of an unbreakable bond. Crafted in 14k yellow gold with lush engraving and intricate taille d'epargné or black tracery enamel work in a stylized floral motif on each side.

Possibly a mourning bangle, but not all of these black enameled pieces were meant as memorials. In fact bangles such as this were often given in pairs by 19th century grooms to their betrothed, one bracelet gifted at the engagement and its mate gifted on the wedding day.

Details:

An oval shape 1/2" wide, measuring approximately 2 1/8" by 1 11/16” across the inside diameter with an interior circumference of approximately 6". The hinge is sturdy and the box clasp secure. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 14k. Weighs approximately 25.1 grams.

Condition:

In excellent condition with a gentle patina, some subtle marks and light dings on the inside of the bangle but no obvious dents or scratches to mar the outside surface. There is one small silver dot and one small pinhole on one edge on either side of the clasp where likely a safety chain was atttached. The enamel appears complete and all original.
