Victorian Gott Schütze Dich Enamel Bangle Bracelet

$485.00

These Victorian protection motto bangles are somewhat rare and never fail to appeal to me, this one is late 19th century with the benediction "Gott Schütze Dich" in silver letters across a baby blue enamel field. The translation varies slightly depending on the source from "God protect you" to God Bless you".

Details: An oval shape approximately 5/16" wide, and 2 1/4" by 1 7/8” across the inside diameter with an interior circumference of approximately 6 1/4". The safety chain ensures security. Stamped with the Austro-Hungarian hallmark for 750 silver, made between 1872-1922.

Condition: In excellent condition with a gentle patina, and a couple of light dings on the inside of the bangle but no obvious dents or scratches to mar the outside surface. The enamel appears complete and all original. The hinge has a bit of play when the bangle is open, and a tiny bit at the clasp when closed, this is mentioned for absolute accuracy: both hinge and clasp are in good working order and the bracelet stays safely shut when clasped.
