Antique Rose Cut Garnet Horseshoe Brooch
A statement-sized Victorian horseshoe brooch pavé set with rose-cut pyrope garnets. I love these Victorian "Bohemian" garnet pieces because of that unmistakeable deep red color typical of the pyrope garnets mined in the Bohemian mountains, in what is now the Czech Republic. The stones have been used in jewelry since discovery in about the 5th century C.E, but the popularity of this type of cut and setting in the late 19th century was unsurpassed.
Details: Measuring approximately 2" high by 1 7/8" at the widest. The hinge and C clasp are in strong working order. The brooch is made in tombac, an alloy used in Eastern Europe specifically for the type of jewelry, with a rose gold wash.
Condition: In excellent condition with very minimal wear to the stones and some light oxidization of the metal.
