Antique Chain with Baroque Pearl Stations
Circa 1900, a long yellow gold-filled watch or guard chain featuring eleven genuine baroque pearl stations. Perfect for layering with other chains or beads, as well as an interesting way to hold your favorite locket or charms; it can also be worn doubled by clipping the clasp to a loose section of chain to achieve the desired swag.
Details: Measuring approximately 41" long with the pearls averaging 6mm X 8 mm.
Condition: In excellent condition with a light antique patina. The watch clip is in strong working order.
History: This type of long chain was known in the 19th century as a guard or lorgnette chain, sometimes made in lengths of 60" or more; they were used by ladies to hold utilitarian items like watches, spectacles or hand muffs, with the longer length allowing some freedom of movement.
