Early 19th c. Italian Devotional Ring with Madonna & Child
An early 19th century devotional ring, featuring a miniature hand-painted image of the Madonna with Child underneath faceted glass in a carved bezel. Crafted in high karat gold in a Gothic revival style, with openwork arabesque shoulder details, it's a rare and poignant piece, likely Italian in origin.
Details: Measures approximately 9/16" north to south and 1/2" east to west across the face. Not marked for metal content but professionally tests to 16k gold, with 14k results at certain areas (likely due to alternate karat solder used in the original construction). Weighs approximately 6.6 grams.
Size: Measures 6 on the mandrel. We do not recommend resizing.
Condition: In excellent antique condition with a rich antique patina, light rubbing to the glass covering the painting, slight paint separation on the image and wear to the bezel.
