Antique Silver Enamel Violet Brooch

$210.00

I love the soft matte colors of this pansy brooch, circa 1900 crafted in silver and enameled in velvety shades of purple and yellow. A bright rose-cut paste stone  accents the center, it's delicate twinkle a perfect complement to the rich color of the petals.

At one time considered the flower of Valentine's Day; legend says St. Valentine used crushed violets to make ink while jailed for his Christian beliefs, signing a note to a follower as "Your Valentine". In the 19th century the bloom symbolized modesty, humility and devotion.

Details: Measuring approximately 1 3/16" north to south and 1" east to west. The hinge and C-clasp are in strong working order. Marked for 800 silver on the back.

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a rich patina and some light wear to the enamel on the back.
