$0.00

This product is unavailable

An early 20th century two band gimmel (aka twin) ring crafted in 14k yellow gold designed to look as if it's one band that can split onto two, then fit back together like puzzle pieces.

The design of twin bands that intertwine to form a single ring has origins back to the 12th century, representing two souls that bind together forming a union of love, the word "gimmel" itself from the Latin gemellus meaning "twin". Such rings were an especially popular choice for wedding bands during the Renaissance, the rings decorated with enameling or bejeweled, often with hidden posy inscriptions on the interior that would be revealed when the rings were opened.

Details: Measuring approximately 2.92 mm wide and 2.44 mm thick. Marked inside one of the the split bands for 14k with the jeweler's hallmark for J.R. Woods & Sons, manufacturing jewelers in N.Y., N.Y. founded in 1850. Weighs approximately 4.4 grams.

Size: 7 1/2 and not resizable.

Condition: In excellent condition. The bands open smoothly and stay together when closed. With a gentle patina and a few light marks speaking to the love its original owner must have had for it.
