Victorian French Pansy Rebus Swag Necklace

$950.00

A mid-19th century triple-swagged chain necklace in 800 silver with bright yellow gilding that glitters like antique sequins in the light. Each link is embossed with a sweet little pansy, the enamel clasp also bearing a pansy motif with the word "Amoi" chased below the flower.

The clasp is a love token rebus of sorts as the word 'pansy' comes from the French 'pensée', which means 'to think', while 'a moi' means 'of me', therefore the sentimental request "think of me".

Details: With an approximate 17" necklace length, the drop of the longest strand has about a 19" necklace length. The clasp is 3/4" long by 1/4" wide, embossed and enameled on the front and smooth on the back. Hallmarked for 800 silver.

Condition: In excellent condition with a light antique patina and subtle wear to the gilding. The enamel of the clasp shows slight age-appropriate loss, please examine photos.
