Georgian Mourning Band, dated 1812

$1,500.00

A classic Georgian mourning band crafted in 18k with black enamel, made to commemorate Harriet Penny, who passed on the 6th of April, aged 50, in 1812.

In exquisite condition. Pieces such as this are sometimes referred to as "deed box" jewelry, meaning they were bequeathed as mementos after the passing of a dear friend or relative and then put away for safe keeping, not meant to be worn but preserved.

Details: Measuring approximately 7.5 mm wide. Hallmarked on the inside to indicate 18k, with an unidentified maker's mark and the profile of King George III.

Size: 6 3/4 , although the width makes it likely to fit about a size smaller. Not resizable.

Condition: While this has a gentle antique patina and exhibits some light rubbing to the enamel it has obviously not been subjected to frequent wear and is in remarkably good shape.
