Victorian Ouroboros Snake Hoop Earrings
We recieve so many requests for this type of snake hoop earrings, and it's always a thrill to find them, though they don't show up often. This pair dates to the the second half of the 19th century, crafted in rose gold with Russian hallmarks denoting 14k gold content, manufactured between 1847-1898; they have the friendly Victorian snake "duck face" and lightly engraved details to suggest a scaley texture.
Details: Approximately 3/4" wide by 5/8" wide. The ear wires are a slightly thicker gauge than a modern standard 20g, closer to 18g. Russian hallmarks on each earring. Total weight for the pair is 2.9 grams.
Condition: In excellent antique condition, with subtle age- appropriate marks and light oxidization. The hinges are firm and the catches are secure.
