Art Deco Camphor Glass & Diamond Earrings

$875.00

Circa 1930, a lacy pair of Art Deco white gold filigree & frosted camphor glass drop earrings, with single-cut diamond accents. The touches of filigree wire on the tops catch the light as much as the diamonds, they're like little spun-sugar treats for your lobe.

Perfect as a wedding accessory, as well as a signature statement: they're lightweight and easy to wear on a daily basis.

Details: Originally screwbacks that we converted with modern 14k white gold posts and push-backs. The earrings themselves are 10k white gold and measure approximately 1 11/16" long from top to bottom of the drop. A weight of 4.6 grams for the pair.

Condition: In excellent condition.

History: Camphor glass is produced by a chemical process that treats clear glass with hydroflouric acid vapors to give it the frosted appearance of quartz rock crystal. Developed in the mid 19th century, it was very popular through the 1930s for use in jewelry, and became distinctive in it's own right with the practise of carving a star pattern on the back of the glass form to give it a radiant appearance in the light.
