Victorian Love Knot Woven Hair Heart Locket
$1,200.00
Circa 1840 an antique Victorian heart-shaped locket charm crafted in 14k yellow gold featuring a beveled-glass covered compartment holding a beautifully woven love-knot of chestnut brown hair.
With the pearl surround (likely natural pearls but not tested) set in cut-down collets and the back extravagantly chased in a lush acanthus leaf pattern and "B. Hunter" engraved on a ribbon banner, it's a poignant and rare example of early Victorian mourning jewelry.
Details: Measuring approximately 7/8" north to south including the bail but not the jump-ring, and 3/4" east to west. The locket does not open, the glass is set to safely enclose the hair inside the heart. Not marked for gold content but professionally tests to 14k.
Condition: In excellent antique condition.
