Antique Cut Steel Ivy Hair Comb

$650.00

Circa 1830-40, an antique hair comb with a decorative cut-steel top designed as a spray of ivy leaves. Given the ivy leaf was used in the 19th century to represent the ideals of fidelity, marriage, friendship and affection this would be the perfect accessory to a bridal updo.

The top is on a hinge, which allows slight adjustment in angle so it's alway presented at it's sparkling best. With its two smooth natural shell prongs, aka a French hair pin, it's perfect to secure either a messy bun or accent a formal chignon.

Details: Measuring approximately 4" long from tip of the top-most leaf to bottom of the prongs, by 1 1/4" at the widest. The numbers of facets on each rivet indicate an earlier piece than the later examples of Victorian cut-steel.

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a rich antique patina to the metal and slight oxidization to the steel. The back plate shows some wear to the original silver gilding.
