Victorian Cowrie Shell Ring

$850.00

A late Victorian ring set with a cowrie shell, crafted in 14k rose gold. Jewelry featuring amuletic elements like shells was popular in the 19th century due to the fervent public fascination with unique cultures considered primitive at that time.

Used for millennia as both currency and protection amulet, cowrie shells are believed to promote fertility, prosperity and safety in childbirth. According to ancient Yoruba tradition if you feel a connection to a cowrie shell, you carry the strength of the ocean within you.
